So it’s gonna be one of those days …

Well, there’s an app for that: Sazerac

  • Ice
  • 1 sugar cube
  • 1 ounce water
  • 2 ounces rye whiskey (preferably Sazerac)
  • A few drops Herbsaint or Absinthe
  • Lemon zest

“Fill a rocks glass with ice and water and set it aside. Drop a sugar cube into a separate rocks glass and splash with bitters and the water. Muddle the concoction until the sugar cube is diluted. Fill the glass with ice and pour whiskey over it. Empty the water filled rocks glass and pour a few drops of the Herbsaint into it, rolling [the] liquid around the inside of the glass to coat it. Strain your cocktail into the coated glass and finish it off with lemon zest.” [source]

Yes, that’s how they do the Sazerac in New Orleans. Watch it and other über-cool, YouTube presentations of “New Orleans’ Best Cocktails: The Collection,” courtesy of Keith I. Marszalek for NOLA.com. I know somone once said that tomorrow is promised to no one, but there’s nothing wrong with (every so often) letting your mind race to this day’s end.
